TrimSpa diet pill sales exploded when Anna Nicole Smith became the TrimSpa spokesperson back in 2003. The original formula included Ephedrine which is now a banned substance and without this key ingredient many people are wondering if this weight loss old-timer is still as effective. The TrimSpa review you are about to read is our take on the matter, without the power of ephedra does TrimSpa still produce effective weight loss results?
What is TrimSpa?
The original TrimSpa diet pill became hugely popular around 2003-2004 after Anna Nicole Smith reportedly lost over 30 pounds whilst taking the product. Anna Nicole Smith Trimspa commercials and television interviews drummed up huge sales and Smith’s new svelte body had everyone jumping on the bandwagon. TrimSpa soon became known as the Anna Nicole Smith pill. Since the US ban on products containing Ephedra, TrimSpa has been re-formulated with a variety of new ingredients including Chromium and a proprietary blend said to contain glucomannan, vanadium, green tea extract, hoodia gordonnii and glucosamine HCL amongst others.
How Does the TrimSpa Work?
TrimSpa relies on its proprietary blend known as TrimSpa x32 along with Chromium to boost weight loss. Some of the many ingredients contained within this proprietary blend are the famed Hoodia Gordonii to help suppress appetite, Green Tea Extract to elevate the metabolism and Vanadium to help normalize blood glucose levels. Each ingredient in TrimSpa x32 is said to work in harmony with one another to help you achieve maximum weight loss, add Chromium to the mix which is used to boost fat metabolism and you supposedly have a supplement which can help you lose between 4 and 7 pounds per week.
Is TrimSpa proven?
As far as Weight Loss Pills Land is aware the latest TrimSpa formula hasn’t been through any clinical studies to prove its effectiveness. Of course some of its ingredients such as Hoodia Gordonii and Chromium have had studies conducted on them. The molecule P57 in Hoodia was found to be 10,000 times more potent than sugar in suppressing appetite (albeit from results of tests carried out on animals) and tests on Chromium levels in rats showed that a deficiency led to high cholesterol levels. Green Tea Extract has had the most positive weight loss results; in double blind clinical human trials the subjects who consumed green tea catechins lost more weight than the control group. These results seem to give rise to the possibility that at least some of the ingredients in TrimSpa weight loss pills could be effective. The trouble is we don’t know exact amounts of each individual ingredient included in the TrimSpa x32 proprietary blend. Another cause for concern is the fact that the company who owns TrimSpa, NutrAmerica were taken to court accused of misleading customers regarding the Hoodia Gordonii contained within its product. It was claimed that Trimspa didn’t actually contain the active ingredient of the Hoodia Gordonii plant, P57, without this molecule, Hoodia is not at all effective as an appetite suppressant.
Who is TrimSpa for?
- People who had success with the old TrimSpa product and want to try the new Ephedra free formulation.
- People who want a famous, over the counter weight loss pill.
TrimSpa Side Effects
Like any other diet pill, there are some side effects associated with taking TrimSpa. This side effects include anxiety, palpitations and restlessness. Many people also find it difficult to get to sleep, especially if they take the tablets late in the day and others feel jittery, probably due to the numerous ingredients that Trimspa contains which have a stimulant effect. One ingredient found in TrimSpa is Glucomannan, a water soluable fiber and bulk-forming laxative which needs to be taken with plenty of water or else it can lead to obstructions withing the digestive tract. A couple of other things worth mentioning is that TrimSpa should not be taken with anti-depressant drugs as it contains Tyramine which is known to react with MAO Inhibitor antidepressants and have the potential to cause such serious side effects as seizures and stroke. TrimSpa pills also have food dyes and additives contained within them, presumably to help preserve them, these may also have detrimental effects on health.
TrimSpa Bad Points
- The actual amount of each ingredient within the proprietary blend is not disclosed.
- No specific clinical studies into its effectiveness.
- Lawsuits have been filed against the company which suggest unscrupulous marketing.
TrimSpa Good Points
- Contains a wide variety of supposed weight loss ingredients.
- Available without prescription.
- Compared with many competing pills, TrimSpa is inexpensive.
TrimSpa Review Verdict
So many people buy products simply because they are endorsed by a celebrity, this is never a good idea. You have to remember that these celebrities are more often than not, chasing a paycheck. Since the ban on Ephedra and the change in formulation TrimSpa has without question lost much of its original appeal. There is little evidence to suggest it works at all and the controversy surrounding whether or not it really contains Hoodia makes buying TrimSpa even less engaging. Anna Nicole Smith may have lost a lot of weight using TrimSpa but that doesn’t mean you will! There is such an array of weight loss pills to choose from that it doesn’t make sense to choose a product like TrimSpa, even if it was endorsed by a celebrity.
