Does Hydroxycut Advanced really work as a Weight Loss Pill?
Hydroxycut was America’s best selling weight loss supplement brand 2007-2008. It is one of the most well recognized and highly regarded weight loss products available, or at least it was before the FDA warned dieters to immediately cease using Hydroxycut diet pills after reports of serious liver damage and at least one death were linked to its use. The Canadian made product was immediately recalled and has since been reformulated and re-released under the name “Hydroxycut Advanced”. What is Hydroxycut Advanced?
As previously stated, Hydroxycut has long been one of the most prominent weight loss brands on the market. Classified as a fat burner, Its original formula was hugely successful but its ingredients included Ephedra. When this substance was banned by the FDA, Hydroxycut was released as an Ephedra free product featuring ingredients which supposedly worked in a similar way to Ephedra but without the side effects. The product sold well, had better than average feedback from customers and things seemed to be going fine until April 2009 when the FDA released its warning. Iovate Health Sciences, the company behind the Hydroxycut brand initiated a voluntary recall of certain products in the Hydroxycut range. All of the products recalled had their herbal ingredients and extracts replaced in the new formulas currently available.
How Does Hydroxycut Advanced Work?
The new formula Hydroxycut Advanced contains numerous natural ingredients. These natural ingredients include goji extract, acerola extract and blueberries which act as antioxidants. Another of the ingredients in Hydroxycut Advanced is caffeine anhydrous which is likely to be the primary ingredient behind the product’s marketing claims of increased energy and elevated metabolic rate.
Like many other weight loss pills the new Hydroxycut Advanced supplement contains its own proprietary blend of ingredients so it is although we know what ingredients it contains, we are unaware of the amounts. The reason for this is primarily to stop imitation products from flooding the market but the problem is it becomes extremely difficult to assess the potential benefits and effects of the pill in question.
Is Hydroxycut Advanced proven?
We found no studies specifically dedicated to Hydroxycut’s new advanced formulation, the official Hydroxycut website does not feature any endorsements from doctors or nutritional experts either. Maybe this is because of the rush to get this pill to market left little time to carry out proper clinical studies. And, because of the product’s use of a proprietary blend on its list of ingredients it is difficult to establish how much of each ingredient is used and whether they are likely to have any real impact on weight loss.
So far as Weight Loss Pills Land can tell, the ingredient Caffeine Anhydrous has been the most highly regarded in terms of its impact on weight loss. Caffeine Anhydrous is simply caffeine in a dehydrated form, it has been shown many times over in numerous clinical studies to be effective at increasing metabolism and energy levels.

Hydroxycut Advanced Side Effects
Obviously, due to the reliance of Hydroxycut Advanced on caffeine, people who are sensitive to this stimulant are advised to steer clear. Each serving (2 capsules) is equivilent to two cups of coffee, and a daily dosage is 4 capsules. The Hydroxycut side effects of excess caffeine consumption include (but are not limited to), nervousness, tremors, anxiety, palpitations, difficulty sleeping and increased heart rate.
Other than the potential side effects outlined above, it would seem that Hydroxycut Advanced is relatively safe but we cannot be 100% sure because it seems not to have undergone any meaningful testing. At the time of writing, we found no reports of serious side effects from users of this new formulation of Hydroxycut but it is somewhat worrying not knowing the exact amount of ingredients due to the use of a proprietary blend.

Verdict
After the recall, Hydroxycut re-released products extremely swiftly with new formulations and you have to wonder whether adequate testing was undergone before their release. Judging from the list of ingredients on the Hydroxycut Advanced label, the only one with any proven weight loss pedigree is caffeine. You have to question whether purchasing a pill form of caffeine is going to be any more effective than drinking a few espressos each morning, sure it may be more convenient but is it worth the extra cash?
Overall the new Hydroxycut product seems too rushed, it looks like it was produced quickly to fill the hole left after the product recall, with its primary objective to be released as fast as possible in order to stop the company losing all it’s profits. Our advice is to buy another pill and wait for Hydroxycut Advanced to undergo some proper testing, both by the market and by science.
